Elko Point Leader Reuvers Hopes to Cash In at Summer Clash
Former Series Regular Reuvers Hoping for More ASAMT Glory
Minnesota drivers are looking forward to the return of the American Speed Association® Kwik Trip Midwest Tour presented by ECHO Outdoor Power Equipment and GrandStay Hospitality at Elko Speedway this Friday and Saturday, July 8th and 9th. The mid-season event is one of the biggest in ASAMT history. $10,000 is up for grabs for the winner of the GrandStay Summer Clash.

One driver who might be the third local in a row to take away the victory from the Touring regulars is current Elko point leader, Donny Reuvers. Reuvers may not run with the ASAMT on a regular basis anymore, but when he does, he is always a top contender.

Reuvers was an ASA Midwest Touring Star in the first few years of the series. In 2008, Donny accumulated three ASAMT victories. His first came at Dells Raceway Park where he fought off Steve Carlson for the win. He followed that victory up with another at Grundy County Speedway. His third and final victory came at Raceway Park in Shakopee, MN.

During that season, Reuvers and fellow Elko competitor and 2008 ASAMT Champion, Dan Fredrickson, battled tooth and nail for the championship. Each had their ups and downs, but in the end it was Fredrickson who drove away with the championship.

Elko Speedway is a high-banked 3/8 mile oval with over 45 years of racing history. The track is notorious for 2-wide racing from green to checkered and some of the most competitive racing in the Midwest. In fact, last year's ASAMT event at Elko Speedway was a nail-biter to the finish. Chris Wimmer and Ross Kenseth battled side-by-side, lap after lap before Kenseth finally took the checkered flag.

Donny Reuvers started racing in the Bomber division in 1993. By 1995 he moved into the Sportsman division and in 1998 he began running Late Models at both Elko Speedway and Raceway Park. In 2003, Reuvers took a break from weekly racing and did some touring racing. In 2004 he helped mentor fellow Minnesota driver, Joey Miller, in the NASCAR Camping World Truck series and ARCA racing series.

In 2010, Reuvers added to his collection of victories and racing titles with his sixth consecutive Late Model Championship at Elko Speedway and his third NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Championship. He currently has 11 track championships, seven at Elko Speedway and four at Raceway Park. If that is not enough, earlier this year, Donny Reuvers was entered into the Elko Speedway Hall of Fame.

This Friday night, Donny and the rest of the drivers will qualify for the GrandStay Summer Clash. Fan gates open at 5PM with opening ceremonies at 7PM. On Saturday, gates open at 4PM with opening ceremonies at 6PM.
