Dorer Bests Elliott on Final Corner; Tough Night for Title Contenders
Steve Dorer only led a few feet of the Seal Wrap Redbud 300 at Anderson Speedway (IN) on August 1st, but they were the most important feet of his racing career.
Dorer charged to the outside of Chase Elliott, who had led every lap since the halfway break, on the final corner of the 300-lap race to earn his second victory of the Summer on the CRA Super Series tour.
Here are both Dorer's and Elliott's reactions to the thrilling finish.
Scott Hantz entered the Redbud 300 atop the CRA Super Series' point standings. His two top contenders, Terry Fisher, Jr. and Derrick Griffin, hoped to take advantage and bite into Hantz's lead when Hantz was involved in a first-half accident that destroyed much of his car.
Unfortunately for Fisher and Griffin, they both were also involved in different incidents on the track, leaving all three title contenders with crashed racecars at race's end.
Hantz made enough repairs to get his car rolling only under caution-flag periods, and that allowed him to pick up some spots in the finish. Griffin and Fisher both limped around to get to the end to salvage as many points as possible.
