The votes are in and the fans have spoken. First off, we at Speed51.com would like to thank all of those who logged on the Speed51.com's Five Star Race Car Bodies Facebook page to cast a vote for the driver who they think should make the cut in our annual Short Track Draft, presented by Hedman Husler Hedders. During this process our Facebook page soared to record numbers as we surpassed the 10,000 fan mark. Our Facebook page is a great source for news, information, photos and more and it wouldn’t be possible without Five Star Race Car Bodies.
Without further delay here are the results of the fan vote.
Pick - Fan Vote
Age - 18
Hometown – Houston, TX
Series – NASCAR Late Models, Pro Late Models
18-year-old Texas native Mason Mitchell already has quite a following at an early age. He easily took the honor as the winner of the fan vote with a remarkable 17% of the votes going to him. Mitchell was the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Rookie of the Year for the state of Texas in 2010 after making 15 starts at Houston Motorsports Park. He posted seven top 5's and 13 top 10's. He has already made up for a winless season in 2010 with four wins in 2011. Pro Late Model fans can expect to see Mitchell in his number 57 at Five Flags Speedway (FL) for the 100 lappers later in the season.
The rest of the top five in the fan vote included three drivers who made our top 51 and another Late Model upstart.
Ryan Blaney was the second overall fan vote and he was third overall in the Short Track Draft. The promising young driver is getting it done on the track with the critics and off the track with the fans.
The ever-popular Southeast Late Model standout Bubba Pollard was third in the overall fan vote. Pollard has a large following, but not just around the western Georgia area. Just about every track he goes to there is a roar from the crowd.
Stephen Nasse is another youngster who has then talent, the following and shows potential of a great future. Nasse has several wins already this year, one with a broken foot and all. Florida fans are making the switch to this young driver who recently scored a big win hundreds of miles away from his hometown at Hickory Motor Speedway (NC).
Rounding out the top five is a PASS South weekend warrior. Bradley McCaskill has never won a PASS South event, but he's well known with the fans and respected by all the drivers. McCaskill was 10th in the 2009 PASS South points after a fourth at Hickory. He has scaled back his racing a bit since that season, but he is still very popular with the fans.
Finishing up the top 10 were Darrell Wallace Jr, Austin Brehio, Kenzie Ruston, Matt Scott and Alex Fleming. A total of 66 different drivers received votes in our Facebook poll.
