12-Time Champ Bozell Wins Call of the Wild
& Breaks World Record
Three-Eighths Mile Track in 10 Seconds? Bozell Made it Happen
Kalamazoo Speedway PR
If there is a down side of being a 12-time champion it might be that it becomes harder to surprise people with future accomplishments. That certainly can be said for Andy Bozell, who has accomplished so much at Kalamazoo Speedway it is hard for him to surprise competitors and fans anymore. Saturday night however, Bozell stunned everyone at Kalamazoo Speedway by breaking his own world record for a 3/8 mile track with a lap of 10.020 seconds, which was slightly better than his previous world record of 10.038. The shocking part however was that Bozell did this with 10” tires, due to new rules this year, while his previous record was set when there were no tire rules whatsoever.
In the race itself 12-time surprised no one as he held off a late challenge from son Phil to win the event. Mark Shook continued his impressive runs in post-season events with a third place finish ahead of Jeff Bozell and Mike Schewchuk. Danny McEndarfer was sixth while Randy Day, Nyle Weiler, Chuck Greer and Wayne Houghton completed the top ten.
Bobby Stremme made the trek from Indiana to set quick time and win the Outlaw Mini Stock feature. Former Outlaw Super Late Model driver Billy Bussema finished 2nd ahead of Jeremy Collins, Wayne Kline and George Watts. Jeff Presock, Greg Earl, Frank Stager, Terry Kline and Rick Mann Jr. rounded out the top ten.
In the Outlaw FWD feature Todd Mentz Jr. drove from the back of the field to the front and held on to pick up the win. Todd Mentz Sr. was second ahead of Darren Wright, Tom Conroy and Cyber Stock regular Logan Knight. Randy Leonard finished 6th ahead of Doug Nelson, Jake Lousch, Grady Gerken and Charles Peterson.
Next on the schedule is the 25th annual Super Shoe Nationals, coming up September 30-October 2.
