Midvale Speedway Hosting Show Of The Year Friday
Strong Entry List For Main Event Super Late 100
By Adam Mackey
The Main Event Racing Series Super Late Models zoom back into action this coming Friday, July 1 at Midvale OH Speedway.  Having two rainouts already this season at Angola and Columbus, the Main Event competitors are excited to get back on the track after racing just one event at Sandusky so far this year.  The Friday event will mark the first of two races at Midvale this season.

The 3/10-mile asphalt oval will be hosting a huge field of Outlaw Super Late Model competitors, as the possible pre-entry list is stacked with Main Event and Midvale Speedway Late Model racers.

Leading the list is Strongsville, Ohio driver Jimmy Carter.  The 2009/2010 Main Event Racing Series point champion, had some bad luck after setting fast time at Sandusky, as he was caught up in an early race wreck.  Fortunately, the veteran driver's bad luck ended there and has been one of the hottest drivers in the state.  He has claimed all three wins this season in the TBRA Late Model Series, one at Midvale and both at Lorain.  In addition, the #28 ride found its way into victory lane at Columbus in the CRA Jeg's All Stars Tour.  He'll be looking for his fifth feature win of the season Friday.

Claiming the Main Event opener at Sandusky was Scott Baker.  The Akron, Ohio driver will be another competitor expected to challenge for the victory, as he won the July event at Midvale last season in dominating style.  Baker a former regular at the speedway, will be among the top drivers in laps completed over the years at the track.

Many will also keep an eye on the return of many time track champion and three time Main Event champ Rich Rohrer.  After a year hiatus, Rohrer returned to the series with a top five run at Sandusky.  The Canton, Ohio driver leads the list of all time wins in Main Event history and has claimed a number of those at Midvale.

Donnie "Zero" Hill, who has claimed numerous Columbus Motor Speedway championships, former Barberton Speedway hot shoe Don Harvey, Jr., standout Shady Bowl Speedway Modified aces Josh Smith and Bud Perry, Midvale Speedway MERS track record holder Harold Fair, Jr., the namesake for the former Iceman Series Tim Ice, top Super Modified pilot Charlie Schultz, and the ever improving Main Event regular Brian Short top the list of other  expected entrants.

Five time Main Event point champion Gary Whipkey, who was a favorite to find Midvale victory lane the last few years, is not scheduled to be in a racing uniform this Friday.  However, he will be behind a microphone with track and series' announcer Adam Mackey calling the event to the fans in the stands and on Speed51.com for a special radio broadcast.

In addition to the Downtown Ford 100 for the Main Event Racing Series, Economy Modifieds, Pure Stocks, Outlaw Compacts, and Stock Compacts will all be racing heats and features.  The area's first firework display will be held at the end of the night.

Pit gates will open at 2:00, hotlaps begin at 4:00, qualifying is at 6:10, and racing action will see the green at 8:00.  Grandstand admission is $18 for adults and seniors, $10 for kids 6-15, and children 5 and under are free.  Pit admission is $30 for members and $35 for non-members.

An additional practice for those looking to shake down their cars is scheduled for Thursday from 4:00-8:00.  $10 per person to enter the pits, while grandstand admission is free.
