With an entry list that keeps growing, at last check, 33 Drivers have pre-entered for Saturday's 46th Annual Florida Governor's Cup 200 presented by Bright House Networks. Representing 7 States, including Florida, the prestigious Governor's Cup continues to grow with each year into a National event for Super Late Models.
Former winners Wayne Anderson & Tim Russell, as well as defending winner David Rogers are all pre-entered with the addition of young gun and second generation driver Bobby Good. Fresh off a win in the Marion Edwards Jr Memorial, Good will be piloting the 27 Motorsports car that drove to two prior 'Cup' wins with driver Mike Fritts behind the wheel in 2002 and 2005. Another second generation driver, Travis Cope will also be in attendance. Cope's uncle Jimmy Cope holds two 'Cup' wins of his own in 1982 and again in 2000.
Other notable entries include the 2010 Governor's Cup pole-sitter Jimmy Weller from Hubbard,Ohio, who heads up a strong contingent of out-of-state entries that includes Wisconsin's Becca Kasten, Connecticut's Scott Heckert, fellow Ohio driver Matt Tifft and Florida native, current Harvard University student, and now Boston area driver Patrick Staropoli.
Also on the list of out-of-staters is the 2011 JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Champion Erik Jones out of Michigan and Brad Keselowski Racing driver Landon Cling out of Phoenix, Arizona.
Among the additional 'local' drivers to watch are Deland's Rich Clouser and Oveido's Anthony Sergi. Both, along with Rogers and Anderson, are in the hunt for the 2011 Bright House Challenge Series Championship which will also be decided Saturday night, and are the only 4 drivers still in contention for the title. Rogers leads the way with 1 win in 2011 and a 20 point lead over 3-time winner Anderson. Clouser starts the weekend 32 points back while Sergi is 58 points behind. With Saturday's 200 lap event being a double points race, all four drivers remain not only mathematically eligible, but all legitimate contenders for the title.
