The 2011 version of the Southern Superstars Short Track Series will come to an end Sunday night September 4th at the Huntsville Speedway in Huntsville, AL., and it will end as always as longtime promoter and series founder B J Parker would want it to end with the running of the World Classic, a race that he started in 1978 at Birmingham Int’l Raceway and to this day continues to live on as one of the big super late model events of the year to win. Many of the past winners of the Classic have said, it might be the best paying race but it sure is nice to have that World Classic trophy in your trophy case.
This year’s event will be 150 laps and will feature some of the top names in the area competing include the 2011 and now two time defending champion Mark Day of Clarksville, TN., along with Chase Spradlin who has wrapped up the AR Bodies Rookie of the Year award. Lee Hansard of Tyrone, GA, Chase Oliver of Crossville, TN., Hunter Spivey of Decatur, AL., Jeff Letson of Madison, AL., who took the win in the last appearance by the series at Huntsville in the first twin 75 event, T Fisher of Whitehouse, TN., Phil Renfroe of Gurley, AL., Brad Lemley of Grant, AL., John Henegar Jr of Scottsboro, AL., Marc Burleson of New Hope, AL., John Thomas of Harvest, AL. Justin Ashburn of Whitehouse, TN., Chris Whorton of Boaz, AL., Gary Nix of Adamsville, AL., Keith Cahela of Boaz, AL., Michael Bolden of Antioch, TN., Clay Alexander of Franklin, TN., Johnny Brazier of Lickskillet, AL and John Wilkinson III of Hueytown, AL.
All of these drivers are expected to be on action along with other as a full racing program will also take place that night including the 150 lap Southern Superstars event.
