The Southern Superstars Short Track Series finally got the Rocket 100 ran Saturday night at the Huntsville Speedway, but mother nature once again spoiled the party as it delayed qualifying and forced officials to have to change the night’s program several times as to get the track dry enough to race on.

When the Southern Superstars event finally got underway, Mark Day of Clarksville, TN., continued his dominance of the series as he took his second straight win over a strong field of 21 Southern Superstar Late Models.  Day got the pole as a result of Lynch Tree Service fast qualifier Jeff Letson turning fast time at 12.618 and drawing a five for the invert give Day the pole along with Phil Renfroe.

At the drop of the green Day jumped into the lead at the drop of the green flag and held off early challenges from Phil Renfroe, who started along side Day on the front row, Day pulled ahead of the rest of the field, but Renfroe, Letson and Lemley all battled it out for the second spot, with Renfroe and Letson getting a scare around the midway point when they were collected in a spin by a lap car, but series officials put them back into the second and third spot.

After halfway Lemley started to make his mover to the front as he worked to the high side and got around Letson then Renfroe to move into the top spot, as Letson got into the third spot, as he got by Renfroe late in the race.

The final restarts came with 16 laps remaining and day had to hold off one more challenge from Lemley as he made the final run for the checkers, but Day was just too strong as he took the win with Brad Lemley coming home in the second spot, third place went to Jeff Letson, fourth to Phil Renfroe and Clay Alexander came home fifth after a deep starting spot and worked his way into a top five finish to claim the ARP Hard Charger award.

Finishing in the sixth spot was Keith Rankin, seventh Keith Cahela, eighth to John Henagar Jr., ninth Davey Coble and tenth to Lee Hansard.
