For a 10th consecutive year, Speed51.com, presented by JEGS.com, will be the “Official News Site” of the Snowball Derby Weekend, November 30th through December 4th at Pensacola, Florida’s Five Flags Speedway.
As fans continue to buy tickets and drivers file entries for the prestigious racing weekend, Five Flags Speedway and Speed51.com officials are pleased to make this announcement to help bring added exposure to the event and its competitors.
“I think the growth of the Snowball Derby and the growth of Speed51.com have run parallel,” said Tim Bryant, General Manager of Five Flags Speedway and Promoter of the Snowball Derby. “With technology going where it is, the majority of our fans are internet savvy now. That’s why aligning with a website like Speed51.com to relay important information and race coverage is even more important than ever. We put a great emphasis on our track website (www.5flagsspeedway.com) but 51 is a great tool to enhance our exposure.
“51 has helped us on our local level, but way more importantly on a regional and national level in promoting our Blizzard Series and certainly our Snowball Derby. We get some response from people who will see 51’s coverage and vow to come to the next race. As good as the Speed51.com Trackside Now and the radio broadcasts are, there’s still nothing better than coming to the race. But, for the fans that can’t make it to the race for whatever reason, we don’t want them to be shut out. That’s where Speed51.com comes in and there’s definitely a value to what they do.”
Since Wayne Anderson went to Snowball Derby victory lane in 2001, Speed51.com has been there with in-depth coverage of the $22,500-to-win Super Late Model race. 51 entered into its “Official Site” status with the Snowball Derby beginning in 2002.
“There’s nothing like being at the Snowball Derby; the feeling that you get when you walk through the gate for each raceday puts goose-bumps on your arms,” said Bob Dillner, owner of Speed51.com and NASCAR TV commentator for SPEED. “We’ve had people from Canada, New England and all parts of the Midwest and the South tell us they’ve watched our coverage of the Snowball Derby and that’s why they’ve decided to make the trip for the special race weekend. In fact, last year somebody was watching our coverage on Thursday, so that when they flew down from Canada on Friday, they’d already know what was going on.
“It’s an unparalleled weekend of racing. If you haven’t experienced it yet, you need to. In fact, I’d say it should be on the Bucket List for any racing fan in America. We are just excited to be a small part of it with Speed51.com.”
Speed51.com will carry live race updates from the time the first pit gate opens until after post-race activities have been completed on Sunday, December 4th. 51 will also provide exclusive videos, driver blogs and social media interaction with the teams and fans at Five Flags Speedway.
The 44th Annual Snowball Derby kicks off on Wednesday, November 30th with the Cat Country/WEAR TV3 Green Flag Party. As the teams unload and begin the tech process, fans from 5pm to 9pm can meet the drivers and see the cars that will compete during Snowball Derby Weekend. The first on-track activity comes on Thursday, as practice for the Super and Pro Late Models commence. Later that evening, qualifying and feature action for the Five Flags Speedway Bomber and Sportsmen divisions will take place.
On Friday, December 2nd, it’s WXBM Pole Night, as the top 30 in Snowball Derby qualifying will be locked into Sunday’s 300-lap feature. More practice for the Snowball Derby and Snowflake 100 cars will take place, as well as a full card of Super Stock and Modified action.
Then on Saturday, December 3rd, it’s the Allen Turner Snowflake 100 time trials, qualifying races and the 100-lap feature, plus final practice for the Snowball Derby cars and a 50-lap last-chance qualifying race for the Snowball Derby.
Finally, the 44th Annual Snowball Derby will then go green on Sunday, December 4th at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, FL.
