UARA-STARS Returns to The Rock for Black's Tire and Auto Carolina 200 Weekend
Wide Open on the Rockingham Mile
Series PR

UARA-STARS will share the historic Rockingham Speedway with the USAR ProCup Series for a two-day race event on May 13-14 with Thursday, May 12, being an optional testing day. UARA-STARS will officially kick off the Carolina 200 weekend with practice and qualifying on Friday afternoon. The Black's Tire and Auto feature event will take the green flag on Saturday at high noon.

Last year’s runner up in the season finale, Kyle Grissom, is currently third in points and is looking for his first 2011 victory. After claiming the first Sunoco Pole of the season in Hickory, Grissom’s chance of a victory were high at Kingsport until he got caught up in a last lap caution. Grissom is ready to move forward and put his Celebrity’s Hot Dogs of Concord Chevrolet in victory lane.

Making his way back to the UARA-STARS for the Carolina 200 is last year’s Rookie of the Year, Robert Johnson.  Young Johnson ran in the season opener at Hickory after taking his school SAT test that morning. He claimed the G-Force Shift of the Race award for that event and is looking to improve on his top-ten finish from Rockingham last November.

Current point leader Brennan Poole had an eventful couple weeks off. Not only does Poole drive his TXAZ/Midas Car Care/Alco Automotive Chevrolet with the UARA, but he is also a development driver for Venturini Motorsports in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards. He won his debut race for the team at Salem Speedway Sunday May 1st after beating Ty Dillon to the line in a green-white-checker finish. Poole also has had success at Rockingham, winning the pole and finishing in the top five last fall in an effort to win his first series championship.

With three races under his belt, ‘The Rocket’ has landed himself a second place points position. David Roberts has been awarded ‘Holley Performer’ for the past two races for gaining the most positions during the race, which must be where he gets his nickname. Rounding out the top five in points is Scott Turlington and Kaleb Pressley. Both drivers had a successful run at Newport a couple of weeks ago. Turlington claimed his first career Sunoco Pole while Pressley got his first top five of the season and a career best finish with the UARA-STARS.

George Miedecke, who is sixth in points, has made an impressive start to his rookie season.  With a close second place finish in Hickory, Miedecke won his first career Sunoco Pole at Kingsport. His teammate, Ronnie Bassett, Jr., is right behind him in points. Bassett’s season is looking very good with two top-five finishes and a top-ten out of three starts despite a crew chief change just two races into the 2011 season. Following the Fat Head Racing duo is Alex Yontz, Adam Long, and Andy Mercer with Yontz and Long logging top-fifteen finishes in each of their starts this season.

Yontz, along with Grissom, also have experience at Rockingham aside from the UARA-STARS. Both drivers have started an ARCA event at the track with Yontz’s start coming in the same equipment that Brennan Poole won with at Salem.
